Can you believe it's the end of the week already?
We've spent most of our time this week either split between home, the beach hut or allotment. And this week has certainly started to show signs of all the hard work we need to put in for our second year of (semi) self sufficiency.
We didn't do too badly last year and still have the proof with bottles of homemade elderflower cordial, gooseberry jam, saucy haw and chilli jam left lining our larder shelves.
That's not to say we made these things in haste and haven't actually eaten any. It's just we made far too many with the glut we had and being a little bit more adventurous with our preserves this year will definitely be on top of our list come the Autumn.
Though with hand on heart I can't really say we didn't buy any fruit, veg or salad from the farm shops, but hopefully though this year with experience, knowledge and the trail and errors we've made in previous years it will be a lot less than last year.
And with a week full of rain last week and a week full of sun this week our little allotment seems to have all of a sudden sprouted.
Onions and fennel, Pak Choi, potatoes and peas amongst many, many other things are all starting to show promise.
We still have lots of planning and planting to do, but with fingers crossed.......toes, legs, arms and anything else I can think of we are hoping this year is going to be a very, very good year and productive all round.
