Simple Summery Days
I always doubt my feelings towards living by the coast.
Not naturally born or breed - well within 30 miles - I have never felt a closeness to the sea at all.
Oh yeah - we use to spend the odd summery day down at Pompey, Hayling Island, Southsea and West/East Wittering with our lunch boxes filled with spam (sand filled) sandwiches, sausage rolls and hard boiled eggs (Brighton as I got older - minus the packed lunch) but I never really grew up with the sea so close to my doorstep.
My kids on the other hand are most definitely born and bread by the coast.
Surf shorts, t-shirts and bare feet are very much their every day (easy) dress attire. Sun kissed skin, freckles and tousled floppy hair all year round. The kind of easy going relaxed look I used to envy of my friends that lived by the coast.
A different, carefree and laid back way of living.
And even though I yearn for the countryside I've kinda settled into the way of life down here - even the dress code- I still get to wear my wellies though.
Minus the mud!
I guess what I'm trying to say is - I couldn't imagine a Summer (or day) without the beach anymore, because when all else fails, no matter how the weather is behaving - we always have the beach.
