Seasonal Pickings

~ Damsons ~

We brought these damsons back from Pershore a couple of weeks ago - they haven't been hanging around this long........honest.

Pershore was the day before we left our Worcestershire holiday to do nothing much more then have a jolly good mooch and nosy around as the weather was on the turn.

It turned out lovely as it so happened, but big black clouds were looming in the sky which really made you think 'are the heavens about to open?'

Most definitely a raincoat, welly and waterproofs kind of day for 'just in case!'

So our damsons didn't have much waiting around at all before we departed for home.

Damsons are not something I can ever say, with hand on heart, that I have cooked with or even preserved before and I don't think they are readily available around these parts - unless I've just been looking in the wrong places that is.

Plus recipes were pretty thin on the ground - even Google didn't throw up a vast quantity of things I could possibly make with my perfectly rounded, deep plumy coloured, beautiful damsons.

Jam it was then.

I have to say damsons are something of an acquired taste - in my opinion that is. They are ever so tart in an almost gin like way. Minus the alcohol. I hope that's how they are suppose to taste.

Not sweet at all.

But Mr T loved the tartness of my jam and declared it would be most fitting for cold meat platters and savoury stuff alike - hurrah.

Whether it gets eaten though is another matter completely. We shall see............we shall see.

Think I'll stick to the sweet stuff though.
