Nina Nixon

I'm Nina, a photographer, film maker and forever wanderer.  Passionate about nature, the great outdoors and all of life's adventures.  This is the place where I keep all my 'field notes'

Goodness a trug.

All that work, all that back breaking work - in the wind and the rain, sleet {not snow - I'm not completely bonkers......uh huh!} gales, drizzle, bitter cold and basking sun......well there hasn't really been much of that to be honest......we are finally 'finally' starting to see some fruits of our labour.

Jars are starting to line the larder full of gooey golden strawberry goodness - it was starting to look a  little bit scarce in there recently 'phew' for the month of June.  Broad beans harvested......only a few at a time, and young exotic looking artichokes are slowly starting to make there way into our daily meal.

You just know it will all be worth it, even if you have to really convince yourself on the bleakest of days when your back is aching and fingers feel frozen down to the bone that the best tasting produce is the one that you've grown all by yourself - little old you......and the family.

Nothing beats that taste of home grown produce even though some of these items may be 'on tap' all year round in the supermarkets and can cost pence to buy, but then most of these things are not seasonal and let's face it they don't even taste remotely the same......but that's a whole other chit chat, but not today.

No today I'm just chuffed by the things we are starting crop - these are just the earlies, I can't wait until later in the season when the trug becomes two or even three fulls......I'll keep you posted - nod, nod, wink, wink.

Happy Summer solstice - I have to confess at feeling a little sad saying that - but rest assured I will be staying up tonight until the first little star twinkles in the sky wishing me a restful......goodnight.
