Nina Nixon

I'm Nina, a photographer, film maker and forever wanderer.  Passionate about nature, the great outdoors and all of life's adventures.  This is the place where I keep all my 'field notes'

The blackbirds have stripped all the berries from the rowan trees this week in our garden. I have watched them with wonder, but inwardly I've been thinking maybe this is some kind of intuition, a kind or pre warning - or sign - for the weather 'or' Winter to come.

Fattening up so to speak.

Or are they just being greedy with the abundance of berries on offer at the moment?

My gut instinct - and the old wives tales I've been brought up with - tell me it's probably the first explanation, but who can tell.

I like to go with nature and the signs she offers - it is the heritage of our little island and relied on by many that believe in the old ways that have been around for well......forever.

And as I speak the mister of the house has gone to purchase some heavy duty wood chopping thingy - a friend gave us a bundle of old loft rafters from a conversion  but there is no way his handy saw is going to chop through that lot.....not without putting his back out that is.

So we too are looking at the signs, following nature's lead and acting on our gut feelings.  Stocking up and preparing for the cold weather ahead.  Like little worker ants - enjoying Autumn's glow, but not cutting it fine and finding ourselves caught out either.

I guess what I'm trying to say is - this weekend we will mostly be chopping wood!

Here's wishing you a most beautiful weekend, whatever you get up to.
