It is the Winter solstice today. A day we relish the most in December, a day we take time to acknowledge and celebrate.
The slow cooker is on, the newly discovered fireplace is lit...along with a mass of candles to bring light into our day, the shortest day. And a woodland gathering has been organised for later...and then we feast. It is the perfect setting - weather, mood and homely - in our little spot of the north west today.
Enjoy your day, embrace the darkness and look forward to the coming light. For it is inevitable.
This is my most favoured picture of December on Instagram. I captured it on the 6th December when we stepped out into the garden after a particularly hard frost and danced around in the morning light. Where the grass crunched underfoot and everything sparkled and the dew had frozen into droplets ....just as the sun started to rise above the hills. Visible by the orange tint on the horizon
Happy December 21st 2014
