'The principal of 'function and form' is that an object should be used primarily upon its intended function or purpose'.
When Happy + Co asked if I would be interested in their products I fell in love immediately with their black and white range. I knew instantly that they would fit in beautifully to our kitchen, recently renovated in very similar colours, with a twist of country and dare I say, a contemporary feel.
But I forgot the first rule of opening interesting parcels in front of small children. Do not do it, ever.
Never open a package, of any description with children around. They simply cannot be nosy, asking a hundred questions about the contents and who they are for.
I guess my daughter had other ideas when she spied my pretty little package all wrapped up beautifully contained in its own small, handmade bag.
Where I had dreams of tea and cake, my napkins folded beautifully with tiny pieces of cutlery, she imagined pirates and warriors on hills with flags and banners fighting off dragons ...with my gorgeous napkins.
I have to say they are super soft, made out of 100% cotton, screen printed and wash up beautifully. Which made me, when scrumping for blackberries once all the fun and games had dissolved, even more thankful. Not only did they make for a fabulous container to carry our foraged finds home in, but you can imagine the mess blackberries can make, especially when picked by eager little hands.
Happy + Co's philosophy is 'happiness starts at home' and I couldn't agree more. Beautifully designed to be different and get noticed. Created with passion and love by craftspeople from all over the world. And with 10% of all profits being invested back into their farm in Cambodia it makes for happiness all round.
You can read more about Happy + Co's founder Gary Elton here and how he had an idea in 2014 to create employment opportunities for young children.
And the blackberries, well they were made into a crumble and I had my tea party in the end. Of sorts.
